The mill wheel
Our mill wheel has 44 blades, a diameter of 6.90 meters, a width of 6.50 meters and a weight of 55 tons and is the largest mill wheel still in operation in Europe.
It is a so-called “undershot mill wheel” of the “Zuppingen water wheel” type.
The mill wheel rotates around its axis between 1 and 4.5 times per minute, generating between 5 and 60 KW of electricity per hour via the connected generator and thus supplying the entire mill (brewery, restaurant, brewery, kitchen, hotel and administration) with electricity most of the time.
